Sustainable company
http://www.heinz.com/CSR2011/environment/
I had to put a link because i chose the Heinz company.
they have been sustainable in nature the economy. in almost all area of their company they have reduced their waste. they have set goals to reduce their waste, energy reduction, reduce emissions, reduce water consumption, an increase in renewable energy, reduce in fuel consumption, reduce packaging. I think this company goes well with a sustainable design in all categories, in environment, economy, society and all between!

Your estimated greenhouse gas emissions are 34 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent per year, which is above the U.S. national average.
To reduce your
climate impact, there are many simple things you can change in your everyday
behavior that will make a big difference in the fight to slow climate change:

What surprised you about your carbon footprint? i produce a lot of CO2 more than the average person.
What did you expect to see? i expected to see that the us average per person would be higher.
What did you notice about your footprint compared to other classmates? (NO judgments here, just observations)
What surprised you about the statistical differences between US and other countries? the world average was really low, not really surprised there.
Why is this an important exercise to do if you plan to be a designer? because we design things for companies and it is smart to have in mind the materials you will be using and the material used in the future.
Define graphic design and then define sustainable design. Sustainable design seeks to reduce negative impacts on the environment,Graphic design is the art of communication, stylizing, and problem-solving through the use of type and image. What do they have in common? they both are trying to communicate something and problem solve an issue but sustainable design goes further the problem solve and make sure that what is designed does not impact the earth badly.

Design Activism
There were several posters on this i couldn't decide which one to choose they all showed that human trafficking was like going to the grocery store and picking one out. which is awful and human trafficking is not just sex slaves but forced labor, and the victims are usually held captive and cant say anything to anyone. and they don't know where to run to so they keep quiet. it is a really awful thing and its happening right blow our noses. This poster is very strong along with the others. they show young children and women packaged up shows their fear on their face and body language shows uncertainty. this poster is very heart breaking. This poster reaches around the world and i believe not on the original poster, the quote from Hillary Clinton, "Let's call it what it is... Modern day slavery." ,but i wanted to show this one to relate to slavery.
