COFFEE package design

This design was fun and interesting to play with it looks like its for the holidays, maybe it could be used for the holidays. i wanted simple and reusable i came up with a burlap bag that would have a plastic bag on the inside. my intentions were to have the plastic bag on the inside to be able to be pulled out easily and the burlap bag be reused. now my actual design didn't work out as well as planned the material was harder to work with and the print did not want to stick to the burlap. and decided last minute to make it look like the labels were stitched to the burlap. and the burlap was definitely a hard material to control than i though it would be.

designing for needs

If i decided to design for needs not wants, i would like to help design for charities and auctions that supported raising money for the people. i would like to be designing products that help out the people as a whole. not just individual companies wanting to design something to help support their own desires. right now i my projects that i am designing is simple and helping out the people as a whole with healthy food ideas, people need to eat more healthy food than junk food, yes i understand junk food is delicious but its not natural for the human body to digest so much of it. if i was able to focus on designing projects just for needs i would definitely focus on the greater health of people.

Poster / billboard

i have had lots of trouble with the poster design. but this is what i have came up with. all illustrated. i wanted the poster to look more realistic, but i like the idea of fruit in a popcorn bucket very absurd. the film wrapping around the popcorn shows that its about the movies, and with fruit shows the program is about eating healthier in outings. and the logo on the bottom.THis poster is supposed to be large enough to stand out in the movie theater lobby and attract attention to the healthy snack food stand. The idea was to be ironic with the popcorn bucket with healthy food in it. if this actually became a program i would like a series of these with different fruits and healthy snacks.

Sustainable company

http://www.heinz.com/CSR2011/environment/

I had to put a link because i chose the Heinz company.
they have been sustainable in nature the economy. in almost all area of their company they have reduced their waste. they have set goals to reduce their waste, energy reduction, reduce emissions, reduce water consumption, an increase in renewable energy, reduce in fuel consumption, reduce packaging. I think this company goes well with a sustainable design in all categories, in environment, economy, society and all between!

What surprised you about your carbon footprint? i produce a lot of CO2 more than the average person.

What did you expect to see? i expected to see that the us average per person would be higher.
What did you notice about your footprint compared to other classmates?  (NO judgments here, just observations)
What surprised you about the statistical differences between US and other countries? the world average was really low, not really surprised there.
Why is this an important exercise to do if you plan to be a designer? because we design things for companies and it is smart to have in mind the materials you will be using and the material used in the future.
Define graphic design and then define sustainable design.  Sustainable design seeks to reduce negative impacts on the environment,Graphic design is the art of communication, stylizing, and problem-solving through the use of type and image. What do they have in common? they both are trying to communicate something and problem solve an issue but sustainable design goes further the problem solve and make sure that what is designed does not impact the earth badly.

Design Activism

There were several posters on this i couldn't decide which one to choose they all showed that human trafficking was like going to the grocery store and picking one out. which is awful and human trafficking is not just sex slaves but forced labor, and the victims are usually held captive and cant say anything to anyone. and they don't know where to run to so they keep quiet. it is a really awful thing and its happening right blow our noses.  This poster is very strong along with the others. they show young children and women packaged up shows their fear on their face and body language shows uncertainty. this poster is very heart breaking. This poster reaches around the world and i believe not on the original poster, the quote from Hillary Clinton, "Let's call it what it is... Modern day slavery." ,but i wanted to show this one to relate to slavery.

Participatory Design

Participatory Design — (Due Sept 30th)
post a brief plan that identifies how you will engage in participatory design within your Design Ignites Change project, who you will engage with and why;

In my design Ignites Change project i would like to have outside opinions to help design the menu of the food i will be serving.  So to think of some out side cooperation, i would like to use students at maryville college, and also younger students at Maryville high school. The majority of voices i would like to hear from though would be young family with children. I'm sure something like this would make an great impact on young families. I'm not looking for whats their favorite food, but more looking at what they would be a better choice for the young families and also voice of what the young adults think of having healthy food in a place that has the idea of having a treat.
If i am able to i would like to get to talk to someone in the concessions of the movie and see what they think of my idea and see how well they think the program will do in a place such as maryville. and if having healthy food at the movie theater might bring in more sales for the theater? last but not least i feel I'm going to have the voice of a farmer and what he/she thinks of the idea of having their fruits and vegetables in a place such as this. Maybe they think its great step up from the side of a grocery store or a step up from a road side stand.
I am hoping with all these voices and opinions that i will be able to come up with something that benefits all ages and families, and also hopefully even though taking sales away from the theater help the theater make more profit on the movie tickets alone. also giving local farmer to have another place to sale some fruits.

Buissness card, letterhead, and envenlope

Movement at the Movies letterhead, business card, and envelope. MY business cards i wanted to stand out a bit. they don't really show what the program is, but are for business purposes. ( some reason they are different colors...) for the letterhead, i love the back with the film strip globs also goes along with the business card. i have my logo in the bottom right corner and my apple in the top with the address, there fore you always have the address of where the main office is located. i gave the letterhead some decorative lines on the sides to give some oomph. then deciding the envelope was fun. I really don't like envelopes they are a waste of paper and difficult to open therefore i made it where the letter head can be just folded and become the envelope. Or for more important documents i did come up with a very simple envelope, for important documents.

Designed Backwards

Convertible brides made dress.... I chose this for designed backwards because it was designed because of a problem with brides maids not all agreeing on one type of dress, or they may alter the chosen dress in an inappropriate way. Therefore, this dress is convertible for all brides maids and even for other occasions. which solves one problem of taking for ever to find the one type of dress for every occasion now you have one that can go to all events.

Design Process

I started with the idea of needing a problem or project then you always need research then never hurts to sketch out a few ideas to get you creativity going. next which i think is the most important is the communication. It is always and great idea almost a necessity to have communication about the peice and where you think you going with your ideas. next i have create a few ideas/ rough designs. then again you need more communication with a critique you get communication and opinion about some of your ideas and maybe a little approval for your best design. last but most important is execute your final design.

Social action poster.

Social Action Poster, I wanted to go with something a little more toward the younger age. there is a beautiful world out there, but i don't feel they see the real world. I took pictures i have taken to use for the back ground, to show that the kids have been missing out, i have an avatar from an Xbox game or another games holding a controller, it was difficult to make it look like the avatar it part of the poster but i really wanted to show off the back ground. now it being on my website i feel that the avatar should have been bigger.

Trash to Treasure

Trash to Treasure

i came up with this idea because my fiance smokes and we have been collecting the lighters for almost a year now. I wanted to do something with the lighters instead of throwing them away. There fore i made a table, and the table  i used was found on the side of the road in the trash. and that where the title comes from trash to treasure because all sorts of things ends up getting thrown away, but they can be used for something else. like the table works perfect on my back deck or as a in table in my living room. this collage shows the trash in the back ground plus the recycle sign and the  the steps i did to get it looking great. starting on the left with the plane table and the piece of glass, then me spray painting the table and in the same time i glued the lighters with spray adhesive, and then the final piece came out which is now treasure and i love it.

KT Week

These are my KT Week T-Shirt designs. the first one is the blue one, that one is a play of the Tennessee volunteers, which i think works great with KT week, because this week we have several alumni coming back to campus to volunteer to help clean up the campus.
The second one is a play off painting. I tried to make it  seem like there was actual paint on the T-shirt. Grade which ever one you believe is the strongest. I think the blue volunteer shirt is the strongest.
